This article explains how to save, export, and compare original budgets in Magnifi. Saving original budgets allows you to lock in your starting point for the year and measure performance against both the original and revised forecasts.
Use Original Budgets when you want to:
Lock in your initial budget for the year.
Compare actuals against the original budget.
Compare revised forecasts against the original budget.
Export your original budgets for audit or reference purposes.
Open the Profit and Loss Projection screen.
From the menu, click Save > Original Budgets.
Magnifi will save and date-stamp the budgets.
Only one original budget can be saved per period.
Use the Export to Excel option to download your original budget at any time.
The export will clearly label the file as “Original Budget.”
In Dashboard Reporting or Analysis, you can compare actuals or budgets against the original budget.
Use Playground to duplicate the file if you want to preserve a complete snapshot of your original setup.
Can I save more than one original budget?
No. Only one original budget can be saved per period. You can, however, export budgets to Excel at any time or duplicate the file in Playground.
What if I update my budget mid-year?
Save your original budget first, then update. You’ll be able to compare both the revised forecast and actuals against the original.
Why should I use original budgets instead of just exporting to Excel?
Saving inside Magnifi allows you to run dashboard and analysis comparisons against the original, while Excel exports are best for record-keeping.
